Why exonyms and endonyms both exist

People inside a place and people outside it often use different names for it.

When the purchase is complete, return to the original window. It will refresh.

From the opening

An endonym is the name a community uses for itself or its place in its own language, and an exonym is a name outsiders use in theirs. Both exist because each language has to pronounce the place with sounds and habits its own speakers already command. The opening covers inside names and outside names, deutschland, Germany, and Allemagne, and sound change is not the whole story.
