Clipping highlights means the brightest areas have reached the highest value the sensor or the file can store, so different bright details are written as that same maximum. The loss is those differences, because nothing remaining says which part of a cloud was brighter than which. The opening covers a ceiling that erases differences, preview clip versus raw headroom, and glints are not the same loss.
