Why the bend must be held while it cools and dries

A steamed bend springs back unless it stays on the form until the lignin cools and the wood dries.

When the purchase is complete, return to the original window. It will refresh.

From the opening

A piece just pulled from the steam is hot, wet, and only temporarily flexible. If it leaves the form in that state it moves back toward straight, so the bend has to be held while it cools and while the extra moisture leaves. The opening covers hot wood still wants to spring, cooling stiffens the lignin, and drying locks the moved fibers.

The rest of the brief — the later sections and the reading notes — opens after Stripe confirms payment.
