How sheet metal is bent

Bending stretches the outside of the sheet and compresses the inside until the metal yields.

When the purchase is complete, return to the original window. It will refresh.

From the opening

Sheet metal is bent by forcing it around a corner so the outside of the thickness stretches and the inside shortens. Once the metal yields, it keeps most of the new angle instead of springing all the way back to flat. The opening covers outside stretches, inside shortens, yield lets the new angle stay, and springback returns part of the bend.

The rest of the brief — the later sections and the reading notes — opens after Stripe confirms payment.
