How pilots board ships

A harbor pilot transfers from a pilot boat onto the moving ship, usually by a ladder at the side.

When the purchase is complete, return to the original window. It will refresh.

From the opening

Where pilotage is compulsory, a local pilot meets the ship near the port limits and boards before the passage into the harbor. The transfer is a physical move from a pilot boat, or sometimes a helicopter, onto a ship that is underway and making a lee for the approach. The opening covers the pilot boat comes alongside, a ladder is rigged for the climb, and boarding grounds sit outside the port.

The rest of the brief — the later sections and the reading notes — opens after Stripe confirms payment.
